Our Role: Our client required a full architectural service including surveys, feasibility studies, sketch schemes, working drawings, planning, conservation building regulations, tenders and contract administration to completion.
Key Features: The building is located in the the historic market town of Ludlow in a conservation area. The project involved alterations to an existing tired old building, some parts dating back to the 17th century, to provide retail accommodation on the ground with basement storage with six self contained apartments to the upper storeys and roof space. Extensive remedial work was carried out to the existing medieval brickwork and an existing 17th century staircase was retained and incorporated into the design.
Benefits to Client: By using Liverpool PSDA as architects for the project our client was able to call on a practice with a proven track record in working with historic buildings using our expert knowledge to bring the project to completion
Awards: The project was awarded a Ludlow Heritage award, judged to be exemplary in terms of preserving and enhancing the character of the Ludlow Conservation Area. It was considered that the use of both modern and ancient building materials and repair technology coupled with high quality craftmanship and design upheld the best traditions of the town
